José Carlos Moreno Úbeda

Assoc Prof Automatic Control & Systems Engineering

Jose Carlos Moreno received the M.Sc. degree in computer science (extraordinary award) in 1996 and the Ph.D. degree in 2003 from the University of Murcia, Spain. He is Associate Professor of automatic control and systems engineering with the University of Almería, Spain, since 1999. 

His main areas of interest are Robotics and Automatic Control. Highlighting in the first one its application to Agriculture and to the Care and Rehabilitation sector. And in the second one, the robust QFT control, PID control, feedforward control, reset control and hierarchical and robust control, with application to agricultural processes, energy and bioprocesses.

He has been teaching subjects related to Automatic Control and Robotics for more than 19 years, from fundamental subjects related to modelling and control of continuous systems, and to manipulation and mobile robotics to subjects of a more applied nature, in the fields of Health Sciences (Robotics applied to rehabilitation) and agriculture (Control and robotics in agriculture), in bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He has also directed many final studies and doctoral theses related to these fields. He has been coordinator of the “Robotics in Agriculture” course within the Training Network Courses of ceia3. 

He has been and is a reviewer of numerous research journals, highlighting Journal of Process Control, Automatica, International Journal of Control, IET Control Theory & Applications, International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, Robotics and Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Iberoamerican Magazine of Automation and Industrial Computing, among others.

He has participated in master’s and doctoral programs at the universities of Almería, and at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil).

Product of work in the lines mentioned above has published many papers in international journals and congresses and international book chapters, and has also participated in many research projects and contracts with companies.

He has also participated in research networks related to teaching and many teaching innovation project. He is currently, since 2015, Coordinator of the Degree in Industrial Electronic Engineering and Erasmus coordinator of the University of Almeria.

Furthermore he is the head of the University of Almeria Robotics Club, an the director of the FIRST LEGO League in Almeria from 2015.
